Learning Through the Creative Curriculum The center uses the “Creative Curriculum”. The classroom is arranged in interest areas such as Dramatic Play, Discovery Area, Library, etc. Jeanie and her young friends are engaged in block building in the Construction Area.  Brandy questions this beginning driver on his travel plans. Open ended questions are great opportunities to help young children expand their vocabulary.  Leslee oversees the development of these preschooler’s gross motor skills.  Kelly facilitates a read aloud and is demonstrating concepts of print. A child is assisting her while also learning book handling skills.  Stephanie observes Molly’s developing ability to hold a writing instrument between her thumb and forefinger. Materials to practice pre-writing skills are abundant in the Art Area.  Alan observes without interrupting an actively engaged child. This budding artist later told Alan that she is painting a pumpkin. Previous to this activity, this group of toddlers explored real pumpkins. Children often use art to represent their real life experiences.  Mindy offers Hayden a chance to choose a song card (with a photo) out of the can. These children in the infant room are already learning to associate pictures with words and songs. Amy and one of the younger infants have already voted for Row, Row, Row Your Boat! |
